The murder of an AP photographer in Afghanistan recently is a grim reminder of the risks faced by journalists covering tragedy and trauma. In this case, as in most other deaths of foreign correspondents, the fatalities are not a result of combat but of killings by criminal elements or by police or quasi-military.
